What is a chemical peel?

A chemical peel is a noninvasive, exfoliating treatment that relies on fruit acids, herbs and antioxidants to loosen the “glue” that binds dead cells to the skin’s surface. The result is smoother, tighter, and more hydrated new skin with evened tone and texture.

What do chemical peels treat?

Chemical peels are used for the treatment of sun damage, fine lines and wrinkles, scarring, acne, discoloration, and environmental damage. They promote the growth of new skin and collagen with improved texture and radiance that is noticeable in just a few days.

Where do you most commonly perform chemical peels?

• Face

• Neck

• Décolleté (Chest)

What types of chemical peels do you offer?

At Fairfield Dermatology, we offer salicyclic acid, glycolic acid and combination vitamin A based chemical peels.  The type of chemical peel you receive will be selected specifically for your skin type and your desired results.

How long is a treatment and what should I expect after the treatment?

A treatment normally takes between 30 and 45 minutes, although time varies depending upon the area being treated. Results are seen five to seven days after the first treatment, however a series of treatments is recommended in order to receive optimal results.
Minor irritation of the skin can occur, resulting in slight pinking.

At first I was a little scared to have a chemical peel treatment, but my doctor assured me that he would alter the chemical solution based on my individual needs.  Three treatments made my skin smoother, and my skin spots from sun damage and acne scars faded.  I would definitely do it again!
